The honest reason is that we built them for ourselves first. When our own workflow had a gap, we filled it, and a few of those turned out to be useful enough that other people wanted them.So we made them free and put them on GitHub, under an MIT licence, no strings.
The reason it is worth a page on our site is simpler. Anyone can say they build good software. A tool that strangers have chosen to install, star and rely on is the version of that claim you can check yourself.

What each one does
- headroom. A live bar in the Claude Code statusline that shows how full the context window is, so you get a warning before the session runs out of room instead of losing work to it. The most used of the four, with 68 stars and counting.
- agent-athena. A complete open-source AI agent system, fourteen named agents wired together, that installs from a single script and runs real projects. For people building serious automation, not a toy demo.
- sub-zero-skill. A Claude Code command that refuses to call any work finished until a separate check proves it in the real world. It exists because AI agents declare victory far too easily, and a build being green is not the same as the thing actually working.
- agent-starter. A memory assistant that captures what happened in a coding session and briefs you the next morning on where you left off, closing the gap that AI tools forget everything between sessions.
They are small, sharp tools that each fix one real problem. None of them is a product we sell.They are the by-product of building carefully, which is the only reason they are any good.
What this says about hiring us
A studio that builds tools other developers choose to install is a studio that sweats the details when nobody is paying it to. That is the whole signal.
When you hire someone to build your website or your app, you cannot see the care until it is finished, and by then the money is spent. Public work is the one place you can inspect the craft before you commit to it.Read the code. That is the point of putting it out there.
And if the thing you actually need is a website, an app, or an AI tool built the same way, that is what the studio does for a living. The free tools are just the part you can see for yourself first.
Common questions
Are Hench’s open-source tools really free?
Yes, genuinely free and MIT-licensed, which means you can use them, change them, and build on them commercially with no fee and no catch. They live on GitHub under the henchmarketing-rgb organisation. We built them for our own work and released them because they were useful, not as a lead magnet with a paywall behind it. The most used is headroom, a context-window bar for Claude Code, which has 68 stars at the time of writing.
What do the tools have to do with building websites?
Directly, nothing. They are developer tools for people using Claude Code, not website products. Indirectly, they are the clearest evidence we can offer of how we work, because they are public and you can read every line. A studio that builds careful, well-documented tools in its spare time is telling you something real about the care it will put into the paid work, and unlike a portfolio screenshot, the code cannot be faked.
Can I use them for my own business?
If you or your team use Claude Code, yes, and they are worth a look. headroom and agent-starter in particular are small quality-of-life tools that help anyone working with Claude Code day to day. If you do not write code, they are not for you, and that is fine: the reason they are on our site is as proof of how we build, not as something we expect every visitor to install.
